So Joe Lieberman has been attacked viciously for his opposition to the crap healthcare bill making it's way through the senate now. But now the gloves are really off. This time they tried to get Liebersman's wife fired from her job with a cancer awareness and support foundation. Reminds me of the last time the extreme left was angry with Joe. That would have been when he lost the democratic primary in Connecticut and came back to run successfully as an Independent. Liberal blogger Jane Hamsher was so mad she photoshopped him in blackface posted it on Huff Po:
Hamsher, as usual, got away with the blackface thing. Yesterday, Lieberman announced he was going to support the bill. Now there's word that Senator Ben Nelson (D) of Nebraska has been threatened with the closure of Offut Air Force Base, a major employer and strategic military facility, unless that is, he drops his objection to healthcare. So he's in the cross-hairs now.
I guess both Lieberman and Nelson wish they had been the first democratic resistor in the line because the deals were much sweeter a few weeks ago. Witness the 300 million Senator Mary Landrieu (D) Louisiana is going to take back to her state in exchange for her vote supporting the bill --which the majority of Americans do not support (and that number goes even higher when the poll people who actually know what is in this monstrosity).
Leave it to the British press to remind us of what we're headed for:
So it's official now. Michael Moore's "Capitalism: A Love Story" bombed. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the flick has petered out at about 14 million. I don't know which is more ironic:
1) That Moore made an anti-capitalist movie the proceeds of which he fully intended to place in his well lined pockets...
OR
2) That his anti-capitalism movie bombed like Andrew Dice Clay at a Def Comedy Jam open mic night.
My review w/o watching the film: Some people will like this movie. Some people will not. Critics aren't going to tend to sway either group one way or another. I do offer a point for those who watch the film to consider should they choose to watch this film: Michael Moore has become very successful because he is free to "capitalize" on his talents in the very free-market system he so vigorously criticizes (and please note that he ain't giving his money away to anybody), so how long should he be taken seriously when he says the system that made him very rich is fundamentally flawed and should be abandoned by all new comers?
The other day I had a craving for a burger, so I fired up the grill out back and wrangled up my speciality: Blue Cheese burgers. Real easy.
- ground round beef.
- Hellmans mayo.
-vine ripened tomato.
-yellow mustard.
- crumbled blue cheese.
- pepper jack cheese.
- living lettuce (not iceberg).
-onion rolls (for use as bun)
-tabasco sauce (optional).
Fire up the grill. Take a smoker box and fill it with soaked mesquite wood chips, place in grill. Once your smoke starts pluming out, slap on your patties (make 'em big to account for shrinkage) and cook to personal taste. Liberally (or conservatively) sprinkle blue cheese crumbles onto your patties. Lay a slice of pepper jack cheese on top of the blue cheese.
After you've achieved sufficient cheese meltage, transfer patties directly to prepared onion roll. Serve open-faced and enjoy with your favorite side. It hits the spot.
50 does not play around when it come to battles. He makes it personal and dirty. I'm not sure why Rick Ross would allow his son to be in this mess. For that matter I don't understand how Tia the mother would allow her son to be used in this manner.
Check the wad of money Floyd breaks out like he's gonna give it to the boys. BALLING!
I mean seriously. Is this where we are now as a country? The President actually thinks he can dictate whom is a legitimate news agency and who isn't. Let's see...first you say who's legitimate versus who is not. Then, hmm...let's see, first you shut down media that disagrees with you because you know, they're not real news agencies. Then you go after people who assemble to protest against you because, you know, they may support illegitimate outfits that speak out against you. Soon, you pass GO, collect $200, and go to issuing the brown shirts and baseball bats.
These control issues aren't healthy. These baby steps toward demanding universal deference to policy is dangerous. Even with the overwhelming, historically unheard of, unadulturated, tingly feeling "up the leg," "It's hard to be objective," media love-fest from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, the New York Times, etc, the President is upset because two "commentators" (READ not journalists) named Beck and Hannity spend two hours out of every Mon through Fri 24 hour news cycle to criticize him. Bush took 8 years of overwhelming criticism from those same networks and newspapers and took it on the chin every time. Never tried to ban anyone. President Obama can't take 8 months? 8 months from two guys who aren't even reporters? Thin skinned doesn't begin to illuminate what's going on here. This is the incremental slippage of freedom and liberty forced to defer to the dictates of dogmatic authoritarianism. Not good.
Chavez should just start executing business owners in the street. If he's going to destroy his country, he might as well be efficient about it. Funny thing is, when companies determine that its bad business to do business in Venezuela, and the jobs start drying up, and people start starving, Chavez will still be eating steak. Just like his buddy Fidel.
Just got the book in the mail I ordered and it's personally autographed by the modernaire himself (well, the signature says Dez, but who knows). Hoping it's a good read.
Although I am prepared to be disappointed by his caving in on the public option, I admire and support President Obama as much as the next guy, if nothing else than he's a role model for my son and countless other children of color. But the Nobel Peace Prize?? (scratching head) Huh?? How can we be at war in Afghanistan and Iraq and he be awarded the peace prize?
