Yet another great Purple Podcast and this time with great sound. I totally agree that considering the rain he did a great performance at Super Bowl - I was up all night watching it and I too got so nervous when I realized just how much it was pouring down and him and the twinz were still all over the stage. The playlist was classic P-stuff (maybe too classic?), but the two covers was in my opinion too mainstream. The guitar-playing was kind of too heavy/raw, but you may be right about wet strings and all. Anyway, the dancing, partying, let’s-have-a-good-time turned it into a great marketing stunt in front of potential 1B viewers.
Great review on PR - great trivia from both of you. I too was 12 when it came out, but it wasn’t until Lovesexy I discovered Prince. So to me PB and all of his great material from that periode was just a HUGE treasure waiting to funk me up when I first started digging. And when I finally got to see the movie, I was the only one in my nice, conservative danish out-of-fashion hometown that could see the coolness in wearing purple cottoncoats, high heels and getting purified in Lake Minnetonka. However, I started to use “The Kid is in a rare mood tonight” as one of my pick-up lines and the girls all seemed to dig it…
Another thing; I’ve tried several times to post a review on iTunes, but it’s doesn’t seem to accept it!? And yes, I was logged in and no, I didn’t use any obscene words
Ok, now I know - being on the danish version of iTunes doesn’t allow me to write reviews on the US version, where the podcast is posted. Strange, not very Mac-like… Anyway, I think you all know by know how much I appreciate this podcast
Just came to think of it - you mentioned that he did Still Would Stand All Time for the first time on the “album” Small Club (or The Trojan Horse Aftershow as it’s also called). I know it might sounds silly, but I always laugh out loud when he at the end of the songs suddenly screams “who’s the FOOL singing will, it’s WOULD!” I guess it’s probably Cat blowing it, but it’s kind of funny and says a lot about P when you think about it’s probably the first time she ever sing those lyrics
