I haven’t posted in a minute, but I’ve kept up with all the shows. I like that you have a female perspective, but miss Tobias because you two would sometimes be on the complete opposite end of the spectrum; it would make for good commentary.
I really dig this show. I found myself agreeing out loud with some of the song selections. In that spirit, I want to drop my all-time inspiring song: She’s Always In My Hair. Stone cold masterpiece. No matter what goes down, good or bad, she’s there… always in (of all places) his hair. WTF? Word to Fargnoli, that’s the illest song title he’s come up with.
This song inspired the best cover version of a Prince song (shout out to Sinead and the Foo Fighters) when D’Angelo, Raphael Siddiq and ?uestlove did this a few years ago. It appears on the “Scream 2″ soundtrack.
“I’ve never been to Vegas, so this might be a good opportunity”!?!? Come on, Michael, what are you thinking!? Here I am stuck halfway around the globe, and I think about going almost everyday. You, Monique and Tobias should hit the road right now and go see 3121 - I can picture you guess cruising down there singing your lungs out along the way to the the Rio - what a PERFECT theme for another Podcast.
Well, this was a funny podcast in many ways! First of all Monique hit my two favorite songs right away - Adore and Forever In My Life. It was beautiful
and I TOTALLY agree that FIML on the SOTT movie is a killer version, in my mind the best “cover” of one of his own songs.
Then we kind of split - I’ve never critized you guys before, but I defintely think all in all you’re missing some of the more funky tracks on your top 5!? Yes, his written some amazing ballads and some interestings stuff like Crustal Ball and In A Large Room With No Light - BUT you can’t just ignore his dance- and rock oriented tracks. So here’s my 5 funkateers:
· Monique mentioned it but I gotta start with Days Of Wild. The Montreal single is the best version, but that is just such a classic funk jam you don’t wanna miss! That’s the one song I’m still dreaming about hearing live!
· Mutiny - it’s a Family piece, I hope that is the songs that reunited them. Remember when he did it in Detroit in ´86 at his birthsday (there’s a video) in a bright yellow suit!? His tight’est moment ever.
· Possesed. When he did that live on the Purple Rain Tour “doing the funky dance” - tooo funky!!!
· Here’s one you might disagree upon - The Morning Paper. I just love the kind og Big Band-sound to it and lyrically it’s a great “story”.
· Finally, he did a cover of Whole Lotta Love on The One Night Alone tour - the guitar solo version he did in Vegas, Copenhagen is beyond this world and like nothing I’ve ever heard. I hope you’ve got that version…
Anyway, we all know this is an almost impossible list to do
Thanks for mentioning me on your show - you guys are doing a great job, it definetely makes my life more fun even though my wife think I’m kind of a nerd when I come home from work and all I talk about is the podcast I heard on my way back home. And if you ever do “a scandinavian roadtrip” after the one your doing this coming weekend (!), I would love to meet you guys in person
Just came to think of it - you mentioned that he did Still Would Stand All Time for the first time on the “album” Small Club (or The Trojan Horse Aftershow as it’s also called). I know it might sounds silly, but I always laugh out loud when he at the end of the songs suddenly screams “who’s the FOOL singing will, it’s WOULD!” I guess it’s probably Cat blowing it, but it’s kind of funny and says a lot about P when you think about it’s probably the first time she ever sing those lyrics
Hey Michael and Monique,
I am a Listener from the UK and today was the first time I listened to the prince blog. I found it by chance as I was looking at Prince 3121 vegas. Am I so glad to have found you guys! A prince programme that actually talks about Prince…how refreshing! I will be back tracking each day listening to all the old podcasts that I’ve missed. Your show, which is fantastic by the way got me thinkin bout my favourite 5 prince songs. For over an hour I have been analysing, scrutinising and whatever other isings there are and I can’t do it! I can’t think of my favourite 5 Prince songs because each album he does always contains a song (if not more) that grabs hold of y’all and sucks you into it’s groove (no matter how bad the rest of the album maybe i.e Emancipation
(I love Joint 2 Joint on this but am not too keen on the rest of the album). So I’ve decided to compile my list of fav Prince songs…choosing just one record of nearly every album..this itself is very difficult as there are numerous albums that every song is great on or most of the songs are great. Also, I have tried to steer away from choosing obvious ones…songs that even the none Prince fan would recognise. I hope you find my list interesting and maybe it will make you dig out the albums and listen to my song choices. If I was ship wrecked and every Prince record was on the beach, about to be washed out to sea, these are the ones that I would try to save:
Anotherloverholenyohead
1) Soft & Wet
2) I Feel for you
3) Gotta Broken Heart Again
4) Lets Work
5) Automatic
6) Beautiful Ones
7) Pop Life
9) Erotic City
10) Strange Relationship
11) When 2 R in Love
12 The Future
13) Thieves in The Temple
14) Question of U
15) 7
16) The work part 1
17) Feel u up
18) Love
Yes I know, there’s no way I could save all of these records but I would give it a damn good try!! mmm…Clockin the Jizz!!!
Thanks to y’all for reading and hope you enjoy my indulgence. Look forward to the next Pod cast.

Hope this helps you two when you run out of ideas. lol
Hey guys, first post in a while, and I hate it to be a criticism, but…
What is “inspiring”??? Some of the conversation today seemed to just be about… “Here are some songs I like.”
The only place it really moved into the “inspirational” was with SWSAT.
“I Don’t Want To Leave You”???? WTF?!?!?!?! “I really like that song and I just love listening to it.” What the hell?
Some were missed. “The Holy River” “LoveSexy”
Anyway… I still love the podcast and love listening. Keep it up.

Vop2000,
>>“I Don’t Want To Leave You”???? WTF?!?!?!?! “I really like that song and I just love listening to it.” What the hell?
Yeah I said it.
Just joking…man I love criticism, good or bad, it just makes the show stronger. So it’s all good.
C’mon man… “Graffiti Bridge” is AWFUL. lol
Matt: “It’s just around the corner.”
I LOVE GB! GGG Graffiti Bridge!
Whoa. Thanks for the shout out
