Is this an April Fool’s joke? Larry Graham? Graffiti Bridge?
I just got done listening to this Podcast….man….you two are fricken CLOWNS!! LOL!! In a good way though!!
Both of you certainly made some great points about Prince’s faith & his lyric changes that I could definitely relate to. I actually had a similar experience to what Michael had, where I saw him up close in concert & experienced the soundcheck before hand. Before then I was reading a lot of negative comments on a certain well known Prince fansite about how “Prince is Jehovah’s Witness & he’s effin’ up his lyrics blah blah blah” but after seeing that show & having that whole expereience - comments like that completely went out the window. At the end of the day the man is an incredible performer, so who cares what he believes in? End of discussion. However, I must admit, when he changed the lyrics in “D.M.S.R” from “wear lingire in a restaurant” to “get busy all nite in a restaurant,” I thought that that was kinda hypocritical of him…cuz which one of those 2 is worse???
Anyways, regarding that unwatchable video of the “ONA” show, lol - that was definitely “Gotta Broken Heart Again” that you were referring to. He made that more of a “jazzy” song as opposed to….ummm…whatever it originally was!
As far as the “Lovesexy” DVD is concerned….if that guy was saying that it’s not gonna get released till Prince retires, and we all know that it’s not gonna happen…then, chances are, that stuff will probably come out when he’s gone for good. Sad, but true.
Hey Michael - U gotta shake sumthin ROTFLMAO!!! Nah 4 real….when that song came out I’d never heard The Time before, but now that I’ve heard their older albums I can see where you’re comin’ from with that comment. The earlier stuff was definitely a lot different to that particular song….that older stuff was definitely much more Minneapolis Funk based.
That’s all 4 now, bring on Part 2!!!
Sittin here in the studio and my damn computer beeps. Your comments go to my email. Gotta record that vocal track again! LOL
anc282: Glad you enjoyed it. WAIT till you hear part 2!! LOL
I’ll post it tomorrow.
SHAKE!
The intro vocal effects remind me of the vocal effects at the beginning of the extended version of “Sexy Dancer”…
In regards to “Graffiti Bridge,” we’re on the same page Tobias… bad times.
Do you all remember when David Spade made fun of “Graffiti Bridge” on SNL news? I’ll have to dig that old VHS out to find out what he said. It cracked up the crowd though…
lol… jar jar runs wild. Oh man.
The live version of “Round & Round” that Tevin Campbell did on Arsenio with the NPG full on backing him was unreal. I’d have to say it was better than his 1991 performance on Arsenio. The band was tight…
Ask me to break that out the next time you come by Mike. And show me how to put it on DVD…
lol. in regards to “the shake”…
What’s so annoying about that is the early version of “Data Bank” (with the Revolution) is awesome… what they did to that on “Pandemonium” is straight GARBAGE.
Matt: I do sort of remember Tevin on Arsenio with the NPG.
Don’t even get me started on DATA BANK.
Yep…that unreleased “Data Bank” is definitely much better than what showed up on “Graffiti Bridge.” Dunno if we’re discussing the same track here folks lol but there’s definitely a version out there that’s a thousand times better than The Time’s version from 1990. That live performance of “Round & Round” sounds promising too.
P.S. Tobias… Prince has performed “Gotta Broken Heart Again” in Vegas on 12/30, 1/20, 1/26, 2/9, 2/24 (followed by “Something In The Water (Does Not Compute”)).
Mike… Prince performed your favorite song (the only funk song) from ATWIAD on 1/27.
Speaking of “Elephants & Flowers”… 11/25, 12/8.
A few of the songs I want on a “Las Vegas” revue compilation? His covers of “Let’s Go” (The Cars), “Cherish The Day” (Sade), “Come Together” and “The Long & Winding Road” (The Beatles), “One Nation Under A Groove” (Funkadelic) “One Kiss At A Time” and “The Dance.”
Prince opened his ONA tour in Copenhagen with an acoustic version of “Elephant & Flowers”. He just walked right on to the stage to everybodys surprise and started playing in 2 secs. - the ballroom just went wild! THAT’s the best experience I’ve ever had and ever will have with “Grafitti Bridge”, may it rest in peace…
Peace!
Hey guys!
Thanks for the name check on the live concert idea, I wasn’t expecting that. lol
