Here there, Great podcast, improptu podcast… I have a few opinions on Planet Earth, but we can save that for a future podcast, but I would like to say, with the addition of Wendy and Lisa, his re-connection with Sheila E. I really think Prince is mending some bridges. He’s older and hopefully wiser and seeing some of the erros in his ways from back in the late 80’s and 90’s. I think it’s a wonderful thing and only shows that Prince has not only grown musically, but personally. I’m sure that has alot to do with his spirituality and dedication to his faith. I applaud this! and to me, that’s the best thing about Planet Earth. Listening to Wendy and Lisa jam with Prince again, and knowing there is a possiblity for more collaboration to come. (keep your fingers crossed on that one)
another comment, I have a feeling many people who buy the CD will think this CD has some connection with Live Earth or the Green Movement with Al Gore… Planet Earth/Live Earth… I can see it. Regarding, Tobias’s comment on Prince touring for this CD Planet Earth. I don’t think it matters if he tours for Planet Earth or any other CD, people see Prince because they love his music, especially his old school stuff. I don’t believe they are going there expecting to hear every cut off his new CD. I don’t really think Prince tours because he’s trying to promote the songs off his new album… Mean look at the 3121 concert we attended in Vegas. he did two songs from 3121 in a 2 hour plus set. He did the same during the musicology tour (maybe he did 4 cuts) So, that’s that… I always welcome a Prince tour, but these days I it doesn’t matter if he put 3121 or Planet Earth in front of it, it’s still a Prince tour.
Speaking of “Older”…..what about that George Michael album from 1996? That was a pretty cool record huh? Nah 4 real I’m just kiddin (Yeah it WAS great actually!! LOL!) what I REALLY wanna say…is that I think this disc is a much more mature one than the last two. This to me is the first time I’ve ever heard Prince doing an album in a really serious & mature manner, while still being happy & havin’ a blast at the same time. Okay, maybe “3121″ was kinda like that too - definitely not “Musicology” though.
I mean, we all know he did away with the cussin’ years ago, but on this one he’s also done away with the explicit sexual references or allusions or what have you, but the disc is still solid ya know?
But then again who knows what he’s gonna do next time round? You just never know what 2 xpect from that little fella do ya?
anc282,
I agree with on the George Michael Older album. One of my favorites GM albums.
I can see the maturity you’re talking about and I’m not looking for Prince to go back to his dirty mind days, I guess I’m just trying to catch up musically with his musical evolution. Maybe my ears are not ready for it yet.
Haha tobias sounds like the guy at the end of the cream remix on the phone “who.. prince rodgers? yeah i raised him”
Best tracks on Planet Earth are the title track (his best guitar solo on record in a decade), Guitar, Chelsea rodgers, All the midnights in the world (i guarantee u that this will be regarded as the best song on the album in time - it could have been recorded in 86)
Saw him opening night in London. Killed it. The guy is a LEGEND. ain’t gonna be another like him.
I think what some people are missing is that, like in the 90’s. prince is 10yrs ahead of everyone else in regard to music distrobution and the artists work as a comodity. The album is dead… Prince knows this. An album to prince today serves as nothing more than a promotional tool for a tour. In 10yrs time, ALL albums will be free and if u cant cut it live dont even get in the game.
p.s. turn them mobile phones off! u fucked my speakers up, man! ha
