First of all, THIS is the kinda P-podcast I really, really dig - the combination of a great review, very well prepared, interesting and entertaining comments, analyses of the lyrics (you rock, Monique, go girl!) and relevant trivia. Kinda Ol' School Mr. Dean in my world. Not that I don't like all the others, but these are the cream.

Some comments. Most importantly SOTT is my favourite album of all time (right next to "Songs in the key of life"), so I would by 100 albums at $1.99 for all my friends! We had the discussion before on the forum, but I gotta say it again - handing out "The Hits" to newcomers is cheating! It's like going into a restaurant for the first time and they go like "Oh, newcomer!?, guess we'll just serve you the entire menu!". Musically SOTT is the hit and I don't think his periods (that sounds funny) matter to anyone who listens to him for the first time. Combine it with the concert video and people are hooked for life - I remember a friend of mine, jazz fanatic who didn't like Prince. When he heard the live concert and Prince go "A-train!" in IGBABN, he went crazy.

When you talked about THE BALLAD OF DOROTHY PARKER I can't believe you didn't mentioned Joni Mitchell!? As far as I know this is kinda of tribute to one of his greatest inspirations, he even refers to one of her songs in the song, which I think is really cool. To me this is a funky folksong, take away the beat, and Joni could have done it - "What do you think, Michael?" :D

I also wondered when Monique said she digged IT but didn't like HOT THING!? To me they are very similar, talking about the doing it with a hot thing on a basic beat. Come to think of it, I've never heard IT played live!? Anyone?

SLOW LOVE live!? - I now what you mean, Mr. Dean.

HOT THING live - "Brooks, tell me what that is!" "A sweet, sticky thang" ;D And the keyboard intro kills me every time.

Remember the SIGN O THE TIMES video with all the lyrics running wild. At the time I thought that was pretty cool :D

Finally FOREVER IN MY LIFE. This is the most beautiful song he's ever written. I guess we've all had our ups and downs in our lives, but every time I hear this song, it makes me happy - I think of my wife, my kids, my family and how much I love them. Sorry for being sentimental, but godd*** if a guy can do that to me, he's gotta be serious. And as I’ve mentioned before, when he kinda collapses in the video and Dr. Fink looks really worried, I love that part. I’m not sure if it’s for real, but it clearly underlines Moniques point about this being a really personal song to him. Oh, and speaking of lyrics ;D :

Lyrics Ant Man
I want to keep u for the rest of my life
All that is wrong in my life you can do right
your are my senior, you are my life
Forever I want you in my life

Lyrics SOTT
I wanna keep U 4 the rest of my life
All that is wrong in my world, U can make right
U are my savior, U are my light
4ever I want U in my life

I read "A thief in the temple" by Brian Morton in April - bought it from amazon.co.uk. In my opinion it takes a fairly psycological insight to most (!) of his albums, songs and most importantly the lyrics - pretty interesting reading even though it's not a masterpiece or a bile like The Vault (please do a podcast in this book one day!)

Again, really great song in the ending! It sounded a bit like Rahsaan Patterson or Mr. Dean - I'm not sure? And no, I dont' live in Sydney - I was laughing so much I almost crashed into this old lady with my bike when Monique said that ;D

Can't wait to flash my T-shirt in London

LOVED the podcast! I have to agree with Monique, this may be one of the albums I would give to someone to get them deeper into Prince. The Hits album is good if the person has no knowledge of Prince at all, or very little knowledge. But most people know most of those songs. If the person is just a casual fan, the hits are good. But when someone shows real interest in Prince's music, I would probably steer them towards some of the other albums so that they can hear some of the gems that where not played on the radio.
Keep up the good work on the podcasts!! I am looking forward to the next one!
