Just listened to the podcast, man. You two guys are just awesome. You should have your on TV show, like a funky Wayne's World. Great show. I'm still trippin' off the shout out you gave me! Had to call my wife, my boys, and I'm trying to get them to check out the show. My one partner is a big time old school funkster and I'm trying to clue him in on the 'cast. Great show. Matter of fact (and I hope I don't get in trouble) but yesterday i was videotaping Columbia University's commencement...I had to do two shows, five hours of lo--oo--ong speeches. So I had my headphones on monitoring audio but underneath the headphones, I had my earbuds in checking out the show, man! I listened to Latest News and The Time review and man it made it go by fast, so thanks! I have to do another graduation today, so not sure how to get through it.

But I gotta say, Big Ken kinda hurt me about Jughead. I kinda like the song! It's just one of those fun crazy jams, kinda like Push. But I'm in 100% agreement on Round and Round. Boring song, hate it, doesn't fit on the album. I also checked out After Hi School and...yeah...gotta go, gotta go. But Girl...you guys kinda clowned the vocals, but when I first heard it, I thought the vocals were the backbone of the song, I mean, they come across as passionate, heartfelt pleading to his girl and the roughness of the voice is part of the character. Just my opinion. You guys cover so much, I just wish I could jump in with my two cents when I'm listening!

BTW, looking out for your new show you mentioned some time ago, something about Geek something or other. And if you're checking out sites, take a look at mine at www.Qstorm.com. I work in media and video production here in New York, so love to get your feedback. Keep it coming!

LOVED the podcast! I have to agree with Monique, this may be one of the albums I would give to someone to get them deeper into Prince. The Hits album is good if the person has no knowledge of Prince at all, or very little knowledge. But most people know most of those songs. If the person is just a casual fan, the hits are good. But when someone shows real interest in Prince's music, I would probably steer them towards some of the other albums so that they can hear some of the gems that where not played on the radio.
Keep up the good work on the podcasts!! I am looking forward to the next one!

It is interesting that you used the theme song from Class of 3000 as the opening to the podcast. I LOVE that show and I think it would be cool if Prince guested on it. Maybe as a wise teacher or something. I know....wishful thinking. But I think it would be cool!

Haha tobias sounds like the guy at the end of the cream remix on the phone "who.. prince rodgers? yeah i raised him"

Best tracks on Planet Earth are the title track (his best guitar solo on record in a decade), Guitar, Chelsea rodgers, All the midnights in the world (i guarantee u that this will be regarded as the best song on the album in time - it could have been recorded in 86)

Saw him opening night in London. Killed it. The guy is a LEGEND. ain't gonna be another like him.

I think what some people are missing is that, like in the 90's. prince is 10yrs ahead of everyone else in regard to music distrobution and the artists work as a comodity. The album is dead... Prince knows this. An album to prince today serves as nothing more than a promotional tool for a tour. In 10yrs time, ALL albums will be free and if u cant cut it live dont even get in the game.

p.s. turn them mobile phones off! u fucked my speakers up, man! ha

First of all, THIS is the kinda P-podcast I really, really dig - the combination of a great review, very well prepared, interesting and entertaining comments, analyses of the lyrics (you rock, Monique, go girl!) and relevant trivia. Kinda Ol' School Mr. Dean in my world. Not that I don't like all the others, but these are the cream.

Some comments. Most importantly SOTT is my favourite album of all time (right next to "Songs in the key of life"), so I would by 100 albums at $1.99 for all my friends! We had the discussion before on the forum, but I gotta say it again - handing out "The Hits" to newcomers is cheating! It's like going into a restaurant for the first time and they go like "Oh, newcomer!?, guess we'll just serve you the entire menu!". Musically SOTT is the hit and I don't think his periods (that sounds funny) matter to anyone who listens to him for the first time. Combine it with the concert video and people are hooked for life - I remember a friend of mine, jazz fanatic who didn't like Prince. When he heard the live concert and Prince go "A-train!" in IGBABN, he went crazy.

When you talked about THE BALLAD OF DOROTHY PARKER I can't believe you didn't mentioned Joni Mitchell!? As far as I know this is kinda of tribute to one of his greatest inspirations, he even refers to one of her songs in the song, which I think is really cool. To me this is a funky folksong, take away the beat, and Joni could have done it - "What do you think, Michael?" :D

I also wondered when Monique said she digged IT but didn't like HOT THING!? To me they are very similar, talking about the doing it with a hot thing on a basic beat. Come to think of it, I've never heard IT played live!? Anyone?

SLOW LOVE live!? - I now what you mean, Mr. Dean.

HOT THING live - "Brooks, tell me what that is!" "A sweet, sticky thang" ;D And the keyboard intro kills me every time.

Remember the SIGN O THE TIMES video with all the lyrics running wild. At the time I thought that was pretty cool :D

Finally FOREVER IN MY LIFE. This is the most beautiful song he's ever written. I guess we've all had our ups and downs in our lives, but every time I hear this song, it makes me happy - I think of my wife, my kids, my family and how much I love them. Sorry for being sentimental, but godd*** if a guy can do that to me, he's gotta be serious. And as I’ve mentioned before, when he kinda collapses in the video and Dr. Fink looks really worried, I love that part. I’m not sure if it’s for real, but it clearly underlines Moniques point about this being a really personal song to him. Oh, and speaking of lyrics ;D :

Lyrics Ant Man
I want to keep u for the rest of my life
All that is wrong in my life you can do right
your are my senior, you are my life
Forever I want you in my life

Lyrics SOTT
I wanna keep U 4 the rest of my life
All that is wrong in my world, U can make right
U are my savior, U are my light
4ever I want U in my life

I read "A thief in the temple" by Brian Morton in April - bought it from amazon.co.uk. In my opinion it takes a fairly psycological insight to most (!) of his albums, songs and most importantly the lyrics - pretty interesting reading even though it's not a masterpiece or a bile like The Vault (please do a podcast in this book one day!)

Again, really great song in the ending! It sounded a bit like Rahsaan Patterson or Mr. Dean - I'm not sure? And no, I dont' live in Sydney - I was laughing so much I almost crashed into this old lady with my bike when Monique said that ;D

Can't wait to flash my T-shirt in London

First of all, THIS is the kinda P-podcast I really, really dig - the combination of a great review, very well prepared, interesting and entertaining comments, analyses of the lyrics (you rock, Monique, go girl!) and relevant trivia. Kinda Ol’ School Mr. Dean in my world. Not that I don’t like all the others, but these are the cream.

Some comments. Most importantly SOTT is my favourite album of all time (right next to “Songs in the key of life”), so I would by 100 albums at $1.99 for all my friends! We had the discussion before on the forum, but I gotta say it again - handing out “The Hits” to newcomers is cheating! It’s like going into a restaurant for the first time and they go like “Oh, newcomer!?, guess we’ll just serve you the entire menu!”. Musically SOTT is the hit and I don’t think his periods (that sounds funny) matter to anyone who listens to him for the first time. Combine it with the concert video and people are hooked for life - I remember a friend of mine, jazz fanatic who didn’t like Prince. When he heard the live concert and Prince go “A-train!” in IGBABN, he went crazy.

When you talked about THE BALLAD OF DOROTHY PARKER I can’t believe you didn’t mentioned Joni Mitchell!? As far as I know this is kinda of tribute to one of his greatest inspirations, he even refers to one of her songs in the song, which I think is really cool. To me this is a funky folksong, take away the beat, and Joni could have done it - “What do you think, Michael?”

I also wondered when Monique said she digged IT but didn’t like HOT THING!? To me they are very similar, talking about the doing it with a hot thing on a basic beat. Come to think of it, I’ve never heard IT played live!? Anyone?

SLOW LOVE live!? - I now what you mean, Mr. Dean.

HOT THING live - “Brooks, tell me what that is!” “A sweet, sticky thang” ;D And the keyboard intro kills me every time.

Remember the SIGN O THE TIMES video with all the lyrics running wild. At the time I thought that was pretty cool

Finally FOREVER IN MY LIFE. This is the most beautiful song he’s ever written. I guess we’ve all had our ups and downs in our lives, but every time I hear this song, it makes me happy - I think of my wife, my kids, my family and how much I love them. Sorry for being sentimental, but godd*** if a guy can do that to me, he’s gotta be serious.

I have to give you credit, you have the first and only Prince podcast on the planet. Now you're pimping T-Shirts. I would start my own Prince podcast (I might) but I don't think there are enough fans to generate enough revenue through clicks and t-shirts. I was going to name my Prince podcast "The Prince Podcast by and from a White Man". Together with love for one another we shall make them know.

anc282,
I agree with on the George Michael Older album. One of my favorites GM albums.

I can see the maturity you're talking about and I'm not looking for Prince to go back to his dirty mind days, I guess I'm just trying to catch up musically with his musical evolution. Maybe my ears are not ready for it yet.

Speaking of "Older".....what about that George Michael album from 1996? That was a pretty cool record huh? Nah 4 real I'm just kiddin (Yeah it WAS great actually!! LOL!) what I REALLY wanna say...is that I think this disc is a much more mature one than the last two. This to me is the first time I've ever heard Prince doing an album in a really serious & mature manner, while still being happy & havin' a blast at the same time. Okay, maybe "3121" was kinda like that too - definitely not "Musicology" though.
I mean, we all know he did away with the cussin' years ago, but on this one he's also done away with the explicit sexual references or allusions or what have you, but the disc is still solid ya know?
But then again who knows what he's gonna do next time round? You just never know what 2 xpect from that little fella do ya? :D

That's why we love him tho'.

another comment, I have a feeling many people who buy the CD will think this CD has some connection with Live Earth or the Green Movement with Al Gore... Planet Earth/Live Earth... I can see it. Regarding, Tobias's comment on Prince touring for this CD Planet Earth. I don't think it matters if he tours for Planet Earth or any other CD, people see Prince because they love his music, especially his old school stuff. I don't believe they are going there expecting to hear every cut off his new CD. I don't really think Prince tours because he's trying to promote the songs off his new album... Mean look at the 3121 concert we attended in Vegas. he did two songs from 3121 in a 2 hour plus set. He did the same during the musicology tour (maybe he did 4 cuts) So, that's that... I always welcome a Prince tour, but these days I it doesn't matter if he put 3121 or Planet Earth in front of it, it's still a Prince tour.

Peace.

Here there, Great podcast, improptu podcast... I have a few opinions on Planet Earth, but we can save that for a future podcast, but I would like to say, with the addition of Wendy and Lisa, his re-connection with Sheila E. I really think Prince is mending some bridges. He's older and hopefully wiser and seeing some of the erros in his ways from back in the late 80's and 90's. I think it's a wonderful thing and only shows that Prince has not only grown musically, but personally. I'm sure that has alot to do with his spirituality and dedication to his faith. I applaud this! and to me, that's the best thing about Planet Earth. Listening to Wendy and Lisa jam with Prince again, and knowing there is a possiblity for more collaboration to come. (keep your fingers crossed on that one)
